Livingetc – 14 bedroom lighting ideas to create a restful retreat
When designing a room, lighting can be one of the most important factors, not just in making sure your room has enough light or creates the right type of ambience, but also the visual design of the object producing light can contribute heavily towards the look you want for your space. Since the bedroom is supposed to be designed for the specific purpose of helping you sleep, lighting is incredibly important and this article by Livingetc has some great tips to ensure your bedroom lighting is not only practical but also stylish.
To start off, there are three different types of lighting: task lighting, ambient lighting, and accent lighting. Task lighting is designed to aid you when performing certain tasks such as reading, getting dressed or putting on makeup. Think of mirror lights or a desk lamp. Ambient lighting does exactly what it says on the tin, usually generating a calming glow. And accent lighting means your light source is drawing the eye towards a specific object or location in the room.
Pulley lights are a great idea if you need some flexibility in your lighting, especially if you need to save space in a small room. Their height can be adjusted for different purposes, which makes them not only fashionable if you’re looking for an industrial theme, but practical too. And if you’re still looking for adjustable lighting but don’t want the industrial look, you can find an adjustable wall lamp as they come in a variety of styles whilst still offering that flexibility perfect for task lighting. Similarly, you can swap bedside lamps for pendants to save space, and you can opt for low hanging ones if it’s a reading light you require.
Not only does the type of light you choose make a difference, but where you position it does too. Make a statement by hanging your lights in groups, this can be particularly effective with wall lights if you’re drawing attention to a gallery wall. Positioning your lights at different heights will help spread out the brightness more evenly across the room. And if your space is smaller and lacks natural brightness, putting your lighting in front of a mirror is a clever trick to make the most out of one light source.
Lightbulbs also come in different tones, and it’s a good idea to keep this in mind depending on the colour scheme of your room. If your space has a cooler vibe, try opting for warm lighting to bring some cosiness to the room.

Good Homes – Floral home décor: 9 ways to work the trend
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of florals here at jmm PR, particularly when it comes to decorating our homes. There are so many different varieties of floral prints that there’s sure to be something to suit your home! We’ve found an excellent article this week from Good Homes, which shares nine top tips on how to use the print in your home, as well as including some stunning floral items that have made their way straight onto our wish lists!
According to the article, “Florals are everywhere in home styling at the moment”, and it’s not hard to see why. Floral prints can be used effortlessly across the home, allowing you to make a statement without being too overpowering. We love the idea of creating a feature wall with floral wallpaper, and patterns with small flowers (such as the one in the article from Fearne Cotton’s Woodchip & Magnolia range) is ideal for creating a subtle yet stylish statement.
Soft furnishings are another great way of introducing florals into your home, especially if you’re looking to create an understated look. Opting for floral print bedding or cushions can effortlessly transform your space for a fraction of the cost you would spend on completely redecorating a room. When it comes to entertaining, florals are your best friend! No summer table decor is complete without pretty printed crockery and tableware, and we love the gorgeous napkins from Yolke Home that are included in the article.
A tip that we had never considered before is to spruce up your garden with a vibrant floral deckchair. The retro pick from Perkins & Morley (pictured below) is bright and bold, and would be an ideal place to sit in the summer with a delicious cocktail!
