Dormy House receives an ‘excellent’ new rating

Dormy House, the prestigious care home located in Sunningdale, Berkshire, has been deemed ‘excellent’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Its rating was upped from a two-star to a three-star – the highest rating possible – for the superior standard of care it provides to its residents.

Formerly a 1930s private family residence, the house was converted into a care home a number of years ago and purchased by the Caring Homes Group in 2003. Since then, it has been the subject of significant remodelling and refurbishment work, which clearly impressed the CQC.

The home’s newest facility is the state-of-the-art Surrey Wing, a purpose-built self-contained specialist dementia unit, which was recently opened by the Mayor of Windsor, Councillor Jesse Grey. The Surrey Wing further enhances Dormy House’s reputation for providing care to elderly people throughout the changing needs that age can bring, creating an unrivalled facility that is flexible, comfortable and appropriate for specialist care delivery. It comprises a range of innovative facilities that have incorporated research from the University of Stirling, which is recognised for its extensive and detailed research into dementia.

This new accolade from the CQC accurately reflects the skill and individuality that comprise Dormy House’s attitude to care provision, and are attributes that are embraced by all who work for the Caring Homes group. It is also a recognition of the exceptional facilities that are provided for, and enjoyed by, all the residents at Dormy House.

Sian Davies, Care Home Manager, said: “We are exceptionally proud to have been awarded the highest rating possible, as the staff at Dormy House work incredibly hard and so the CQC’s rating is well deserved. This achievement shows our determination to provide care that focuses on individual needs, as well as organising a variety of activities and social opportunities to encourage residents to lead an active lifestyle, has paid off.

“We all feel that the Surrey Wing cannot have failed to impress the CQC. It is an excellent dementia unit, full of thoughtful and useful features to help make life easier for residents, and we are all very pleased that we have the opportunity to work in such a superb facility.”

Editors Notes

Dormy House care home is an attractive, mansion-style property set in its own grounds in a prestigious location adjacent to the Sunningdale championship golf course. Originally built in the 1930s as a private family residence, the property has been sympathetically converted and extended to provide a comfortable home offering hotel services to older people who require either short or long term, residential, nursing or dementia care.
