Good Homes – Home office ideas for small spaces
Home offices have become a hugely sought-after addition to homes over the past few years. For those who work from home, having an office space can be essential to ensure a quiet working environment that still separates your working life from your home life. But home offices don’t have to be a luxury just for those who have rooms to spare, this is why we loved this article by Good Homes, which has some great ideas for small home offices.
We enjoy making the most out of unused spaces and home offices are the perfect way to do that. Good Homes lists several places in the house that can often be awkward to put to good use but would make a great home office if done well. These include the understairs, hallway or landing and even the attic or basement.
Good Homes also has some tips for integrating your home office into your current interior design. Maybe having a home office wasn’t part of your original plan, but now you’re working from home and it’s essential to have a comfortable working space. You can incorporate your home office into the rest of the room by opting for a desk or a table that matches your current furniture. It can also be handy to have a multifunctional desk, so that it can be put away out of sight and mind once the workday is over, such as a coffee table that can be opened up into a desk or a cabinet that has a built-in, fold-down desk.
Good Homes also lists some creative ways to make the most out of a small home office area. When you have little floor room, the best way to go is up. This involves making the most out of the vertical space you have by investing in wall-mounted shelves and cupboards, while also opting for a slimmer desk which won’t make the area look so cramped. Alternatively, you can go for a floating desk which not only saves on floor space but can be custom built to perfectly fit the designated office area.

One of the best things that you can do for your mental health and wellbeing is to have a healthy work and life balance. Sometimes this can be hard to achieve if you are solely working from home, as your leisure environment has also become an office space. Zoning is a great way to separate these two aspects of your life if you don’t have a spare room to turn into an office. Zoning designates one area of the room to your work life and another to relax and wind down in. You can do this by investing in a wall divider curtain, or even arranging your furniture so that the office area is clearly sectioned off. If neither of these are an option, one of the easiest ways to make the office space its own is to give it a feature wall. This will separate the design from the rest of the room.

Livingetc – Colourful bathroom ideas – 10 bold ways to add colour to your bathroom
Bathrooms are typically one of the smaller rooms of the house, but this doesn’t mean there isn’t potential to decorate them with interesting, popping colours. This article by Livingetc has some great ideas for putting together a colourful bathroom that fits a variety of different interior styles. There’s sure to be inspiration in this article for any design taste!
One way to add pops of colour to your bathrooms is to include statement furniture. Depending on what you want the standout object of your bathroom to be, you could centralise an eye-catching bath, especially a freestanding one, to focus the attention of the room onto the more relaxing elements. Or, if you want the focal point to instead be the basin, you can invest in a sink that has a dramatic colour or pattern, this could be particularly effective for a cloakroom or powder room.
If you want to go for a less subtle approach than simply adding a pop of colour here and there, you can instead opt for patterned tiles, which will bring some personality to the space. The unique thing about tiling is that you can freely choose where it starts and where it ends. The above example by Suzanna Scott expands the wall tiling onto the floor, which gives the illusion of a much larger space. And don’t forget that you can always get creative with the grout too as it doesn’t always have to be white. You can make the grout the same tone as the tiles so it is not as visible, or you can turn it into a feature by giving it the opposing colour to the tiles, which will also highlight the tile layout (this is a good idea if the tiles are an interesting shape).
If you want a really dramatic look, you can try colour drenching. This involves opting for one bold colour for the whole of your bathroom. This is particularly effective in small rooms as it will make the space appear larger. To keep the room looking interesting, you can balance this colour out with different shades and also opt for varying textures.

A unique way to add colour to your bathroom is to paint the ceiling as well as the walls. You can either go for a look that expands the colour from the walls up to the ceiling, giving the illusion of a much taller room, or you can curve the ceiling round by partially bringing it down to the walls (as pictured above). Painting the ceiling is particularly effective if you have a bath, because you’ll be focused on it while lying back.
Remember when painting a bathroom, it’s best to use paints that are mould and mildew resistant as the bathroom will hold a lot more moisture in the air than any other room in the house.

These Three Rooms – What is hygge? How to get that cosy feeling
Hygge is a Danish word that means cosiness, which perfectly sums up the interior design trend with the same name. Hygge interiors are all about bringing comfort to your home with soft throws, cushions and candles. A hygge design turns your interior into a relaxing sanctuary and has become an increasingly popular interior design trend over the past few years as people seek to bring comfort into their home. This article by These Three Rooms has some great tips on how to design a hygge environment while also offering some inspiration from a variety of different looks.
Hygge is all about cosiness and a great way to create this is to layer your textures throughout the room. You want to focus on natural elements such as cotton, wood, rattan and cork rather than plastic. To match this natural aesthetic, you should also opt for a neutral and earthy colour palette, which will really bring a more calming environment to the space.
Of course, you cannot be cosy if you’re cold. So, bringing warmth to your space is a vital part of the hygge trend. Invest in a fireplace or stove and you can also have a rustic log set up nearby. Warm lighting will also add to the hygge look, so get some candles and fairy lights to really set the right tone.
As natural elements are a huge part of the hygge trend, houseplants will really fit right in. On top of this, not only will houseplants perfectly match your hygge look, but they are also known to benefit our mental health and wellbeing. If you don’t want to involve greens into your interior design, you can embrace nature in other stylish ways such as using tree branches or pampas grass.
