Hotpoint, part of Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, has been announced as a finalist in the Corporate Social Responsibility Award category in the BKU Awards 2020.
Established in 2015, the BKU Awards recognises excellence in the KBB industry. The Corporate Social Responsibility Award celebrates ‘brands and retailers that demonstrate a clear commitment to the future through the implementation of sustainable, environmental and community initiatives*’.
Hotpoint received the nomination for its Fresh Thinking for Forgotten Food initiative, which helps combat the issue of food waste in the UK. Throughout 2019, the brand developed community initiatives, raised vital funds for charity and campaigned to increase awareness of the impact that food waste in landfill has on the environment.
Highlights of the initiative included new research commissioned by Hotpoint on food waste in the UK, a donation of £19,800 to FoodCycle, a charity that uses food waste to create community meals, and the Eat Your Fridge Challenge in conjunction with brand ambassador, Jamie Oliver. The Eat Your Fridge Challenge encouraged consumers to be mindful when it comes to preparing dishes and that it is important to consider eating root to stem where possible. Consumers taking on the challenge committed to throwing away zero edible food waste for seven days.
Catherine Balderson, Senior Hotpoint Brand Manager says: “We are delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist in the BKU Awards. It is a great achievement to be recognised in the industry for Hotpoint’s commitment to sustainability, environmental issues and community-based initiatives. In 2019, the Fresh Thinking for Forgotten Food campaign not only raised vital funds but also generated awareness, hopefully leaving a lasting impression on consumers’ attitudes towards domestic food waste.”
Winners are due to be announced at the BKU Awards ceremony on Friday 19th June 2020.
