Ideal Home – Gender-neutral nursery ideas to create a room to suit all little ones

Gender-neutral nurseries are becoming increasingly popular over recent years but can be difficult to decorate when avoiding gender stereotypes. That’s why we love this article by Ideal Home, which includes ideas that show that a nursery can be fun and exciting when sticking to neutral tones.

Neutral doesn’t have to mean colourless, you can opt for cosy, natural colours to generate a feeling of warmth in the room. Ideal Home has provided an example using tawny tones, partnered with a variety of cuddly toys and blankets to really bring out a perfect cosy atmosphere for a nursery. Furniture made from natural wood, such as oak, is another brilliant idea for creating a soothing environment that remains gender neutral. And just because you’re creating a gender-neutral nursery, doesn’t mean you have to avoid pink and blue entirely. By mixing these two colours, you’re not favouring one over the other, so you’re still maintaining a neutral environment. And if you’re wanting to use white as a base colour, try adding a variety of colourful toys to avoid making the space feel bare.

Having a feature wall is another great idea to bring life and personality to a space. Ideal Home illustrates a woodland theme wallpapered feature wall, which is not only fun, but is also reminiscent of fairy tale books. When you stick to a theme, this can also bring originality and personality to a space. World maps are also perfect as a nursery feature wall as, not only do they bring a vintage feel to the room, but they are also educational. You can even go for more grown-up wallpaper as long as it’s partnered with the right furniture and decorations so that it’s still obvious that it’s a children’s bedroom.

Why not go old school and bring some retro vibes to the room? With this design, you can use primary colours to keep the room bright as well as fun. Vintage furniture can be acquired second hand, which also makes it a good sustainable option.

If you have the space, maybe carve out one of the corners as a reading zone? This doesn’t have to be a complicated design, even just positioning a bookcase next to a window for maximum natural lighting and throwing some pillows and blankets onto the floor will create a perfect area for sitting down for story time.

House Beautiful – George Home launches 4 stylish trends for autumn/winter 2021

Supermarket homeware collections have really upped their game in recent years, and we’re big fans of picking up stylish new pieces for our homes while doing the weekly shop! Asda’s George Home has launched a brand-new autumn/winter homeware collection, and this article from House Beautiful explores the new range. We’re already looking forward to transforming our spaces with stunning seasonal updates, so we were instantly drawn to this article!

The four trends that appear in the new collection are:

  1. Forest Treasure – Centred around nature and utilising natural textures, as well as a brown and green colour palette. The collection consists of items including a jute rug, storage baskets and a round black mirror.
  2. English Weekend – A feminine collection that makes the most of florals and pastels, while utilising pinks, soft greys and lilacs. The collection features a bamboo light shade and floral scatter cushions.
  3. Other World – Filled with a nature-inspired colour palette such as blues, oranges and natural woods, as well as a range of gorgeous textures such as matt ceramics and marbles.
  4. The Entertainer – Containing accessories that are perfect for entertaining family and friends this autumn/winter, this range utilises bold colours and extravagant prints, including items such as animal print glasses and statement floral bedding.

Our favourite of the four trends is English Weekend. We can’t get enough of pastels and florals here at jmm PR and we love how the collection is perfect for creating a stylish yet calming space. We also really like The Entertainer trend, which includes lots of dark yet cosy colours to make your home a sanctuary as the weather gets colder, perfect for autumn/winter!

The start of a new season is always a great excuse to update our homes, and the new collection contains lots of stunning pieces that are perfect for trying out a new trend that you might not have considered before! Which is your favourite of the four trends in George Home’s new autumn/winter range? Don’t forget to let us know in the comments and we’d love to hear which pieces you’ll be adding to your shopping list too!
