Out and About at the Ideal Home Show

We were lucky enough to attend the Ideal Home Show 2023 a couple of weeks ago at Olympia London. The Ideal Home Show is the UK’s largest and longest-running home event, showcasing a variety of innovative products and technology, along with inspiring ideas and on-trend solutions for the home. The event brought together over 600 brands and a packed schedule of talks from celebrity guests and leading industry experts.

Our first stop when arriving at the Ideal Home Show was to check out the Good Homes magazine room sets. These are always a highlight for us at the exhibition and they never fail to provide us with lots of beautiful interior inspiration! The four themes for this year were Kitchen Disco (a playful and colourful kitchen space with a disco ball, neon lights and plenty of space for entertaining), Bright Sky (a luxurious living room inspired by maximalism, featuring lots of colour and patterns), Spathroom Retreat (a super relaxing bathroom with a spa-like feel) and Trending Curves (a bright and stylish bedroom with a dreamy walk-in wardrobe).

Our favourite of the four rooms was the Bright Sky living room (pictured below). We loved the combination of colours and patterns that help to give the space a cosy yet stylish feel, and we adored the matching pair of baby pink chairs too!

Our next stop was to head over to the Show Village, where we explored the Money-Making Home. The replica house, which was designed by Framtio, was inspired by the concept of creating a revenue-generating, cost-saving home. It features a fully furnished Airbnb alongside the house itself, and there is a range of money-saving tips throughout the home for visitors to explore, including advice on how the latest technology can help to reduce electricity bills. We couldn’t help but fall in love with the beautiful pink bathroom in the Money-Making Home (pictured below). It was decorated from top to bottom in our favourite colour, and we were huge fans of the contrasting tiles that gave the space a modern and unique feel.

We also toured the Great Escape house, which was built by Mockba Modular and featured an array of beautifully decorated rooms including an open plan living and dining area with the most stunning pink TV!

For those of us visiting the Ideal Home Show for advice from industry experts, there was an array of sessions that took place throughout the exhibition, covering a range of topics including gardening, renovating, fashion, home styling and sustainability. For example, we listened to a session on smart home technology hosted by presenter Lee Baldry, during which we learnt all about the latest and most innovative smart tech that can help to improve our homes, reduce our bills and make life easier. The talk included a range of demonstrations of connected products for each room inside the home, including a smart doorbell, fridge and TV, along with an amazing outdoor kitchen pod with a built-in BBQ, TV and pizza oven!

We also headed to the Spring Clean Stage, which was brand new to the Ideal Home Show this year. Here, we listened to Hester Van Hien from Tidylicious share some fantastic tips and tricks on how to declutter and organise your wardrobe. Hester also revealed some brilliant clothes folding techniques that we can’t wait to try out.

A highlight for us, and a source of lots of stunning inspiration, were the Show Gardens, which were split into four separate zones. Three of the gardens, Grow Your Own, Coastal Calm and Moroccan Sunset were inspired by the top gardening trends of 2023, while the final area (and our favourite of them all) was the King’s Garden. This beautiful garden, which was a collaboration between The Highgrove Gardens and the Prince’s Foundation, had a peaceful and tranquil feel thanks to the cosy looking seating areas and stunning array of flowers.

We spotted so many features within the show gardens that we would love to recreate at home, including beautiful patio tiles, a herb garden and a range of accessorises such as outdoor rugs, candles and lanterns that can easily transform a garden into a stylish outdoor space for entertaining and relaxing!

Sticking with the royal theme, another highlight for us at the Ideal Home Show was the cake competition. This year, the theme was ‘The King’s Coronation’ ahead of His Majesty King Charles’ Coronation in May. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the amazing selection of entries and we even got to cast our vote for our favourite cake too!

Our tickets to the Ideal Home Show also granted us entry to the Eat & Drink Festival, which is the UK’s largest indoor food festival. Along with exploring the wide range of stands featuring street food, drinks, artisan produce and sweet treats, as well as stopping for a much needed bite to eat, we also watched a cocktail masterclass by Rui Cesar. Rui owns spirits brand GINome, a smooth and well-balanced gin encased in a ceramic garden gnome shaped bottle, and he used the gin to show us just how easy it is to create delicious cocktails at home. We even got to try a taster of one of the cocktails and it’s safe to say we will be recreating it at home during the upcoming summer months!

We had a fantastic time at the Ideal Home Show 2023 and we hope to attend next year to learn more about the latest interiors trends, up-and-coming products and inspiring ideas for the home.
