Retra Donates £2000 to Childrens Charity

retra is pleased to announce that it has donated £2000 to ‘Little Hearts Matter’, a charity that provides support for children who only have half a heart due to a medical condition.

This charity was chosen by Robert Hughes to receive the gift from retra at the end of his presidential year. The cheque for £2000 was presented to Robert by retra Chief Executive Bryan Lovewell at a recent retra council meeting.

Speaking as he received the cheque, Robert said: “Little Hearts Matter is a fantastic charity that I am proud to support, and so I am incredibly pleased to be able to donate this generous amount on behalf of retra. I have really enjoyed my time as president, and this donation is the icing on the cake.

“The charity is very important to me as my son has hyperplastic left heart syndrome, which means he was born with only half a heart. He has undergone a number of major, life-threatening operations as a result of this and ‘Little Hearts Matter’ were incredibly supportive throughout this difficult time; sharing information about available treatments and giving us advice so that we can ensure he leads a full and normal life. It is great to have this recognised by retra.”

Bryan added: “retra has welcomed the opportunity to help out such a deserving charity, and it is a wonderful way for us to mark our appreciation of all the hard work that Robert has done this year. We hope this donation will help to make a difference.”

The meeting also celebrated the presidential handover, welcoming Shaun Barrett to his new role as retra’s president for 2009 – 2010. His chosen charity for the upcoming year is the Parkinson’s Disease Society.
