Team Sundridge raise £530 for Shoreham Aircraft Museum

Sundridge Court care home, in Bromley, Kent, have raised a fantastic £530 for Shoreham Aircraft Museum.

The money will be presented to the museum in a special ceremony to be held at Sundridge Court, on Wednesday 2nd December at 4pm.

The staff at Sundridge Court, popularly known as Team Sundridge, raised the money by holding a special auction that included a signed photograph of spitfire pilot (and home resident) William Sanders with ‘The Spirit of Kent’ spitfire plane. Further items included a case, and bottle, of Shepherd Neame Spitfire Ale, also signed by Mr Saunders. Mr Saunders was a Spitfire pilot and Flight Lieutenant in the 609 Squadron stationed at Biggin Hill, Kent and No 19 Squadron at RAF Duxford in the 1940’s.

The Shoreham Aircraft Museum was founded in 1978, and focuses on the Second World War, and the airmen who fought in it, particularly in the Battle of Britain and over Southern England. In 2006, they launched the Local Memorials Project, which aims to erect permanent memorials to all the Battle of Britain pilots who lost their lives within a ten-mile radius of Shoreham.

Home manager Maggie Candy said: “We are so pleased to have raised this money for such a deserving cause. The Shoreham Aircraft Museum is a cause that is held particularly close to our hearts because of our treasured resident William Saunders, who has sadly now passed away. However, I know that he would be very proud to see this money being given to the museum. We are all looking forward to the presentation day, and celebrating this achievement with representatives of the museum.”
