Water. It covers 71 per cent of the world’s surface, and makes up approximately 60 per cent of the human body. Water is one of the most vital substances on earth. The very essence of life, we can’t live without it.
However, in many parts of the world, water is a scarce resource and, according to Waterwise, who host Water Saving Week1, the UK has less available water per person than most other European countries. Whirlpool is a brand that is committed to sustaining our natural resources, and has developed appliances that are more efficient with water than ever before, in order that the consumer can do even more to conserve this vital natural resource.
Handwashing the same number of dishes as a full dishwasher load, uses around 49 litres of water2, compared to around 10-13 litres for the average dishwasher. It is clear that using a dishwasher is significantly less wasteful than washing up by hand, and with Whirlpool even greater savings can be made. Whirlpool boasts both a freestanding and built-in dishwasher that use just six litres of water for a full load, without compromising on cleaning results.
The low water consumption is achieved by saving the water from the final rinse in a dedicated tank, where it is stored and recycled for use at the beginning of the next programme. Should the dishwasher not be used three days, such as when you go on holiday, the water is automatically drained to prevent bacteria formation.
The excellent resource saving is thanks to some remarkable engineering coupled with Whirlpool’s unique 6th Sense® technology, which features in every product range. The intelligent sensors that form the basis of the Whirlpool 6th Sense® PowerClean™ technology automatically sense the level of soiling on the dishes and adjust the programme accordingly. A Whirlpool 6th Sense® dishwasher will wash as economically as possible, with the benefit of up to 50 per cent savings on water, energy and time3.
In addition, the new Whirlpool washing machines use up to 20 per cent less water compared to older models, using only four litres of water per cycle, and saving up to 20 litres of water per wash4, the most efficient on the market. With 6th Sense® and PrecisionClean™ technology, which functions like a shower, rather than a bath, spraying the clothes from the top, performance excellence is delivered with the benefit of increased water saving.
Jennifer Spragg, Senior Brand Manager, Whirlpool says: “Water Saving Week encourages us to be more aware of saving water by: turning off the tap; opting for a shower rather than a bath; or by reusing leftover water for the plants. At Whirlpool, our research and development team is constantly looking at different ways to increase water savings and reduce wastage in our appliances, while also making life easier for the user. The saving of water is a crucially important issue. Our new laundry appliances and dishwashers are about as frugal as you can get, while not compromising on our long-held commitment to leading-edge design and outstanding performance.”
