Whirlpool’s National Quiet Day a Resounding Success

Dedicated to quiet technology, Whirlpool has announced the first ever National Quiet Day, which took place on the 14th September, a resounding success, reaching a staggering 123 million consumers.

As the maker of the quietest spinning washing machine1, Whirlpool understands the importance of quiet in people’s lives and National Quiet Day was a way to help the consumer engage with the brand‘s quest for quiet in a new and stimulating way.

Whirlpool conducted nationwide research to find out attitudes to noise, and achieved coverage in 50 national and regional newspapers including the Daily Express, Daily Mirror, and The Sun, as well as achieving broadcast coverage on both radio and television. Activities on the day included handing out free ear plugs to thousands of London commuters and generating a quiet commotion on social media.

With a dedicated National Quiet Day website hosting information about Britain’s most annoying noises, the science of noise, ways to find quiet, and a shareable ‘Quiet Quiz’ and infographic, Whirlpool maximised every opportunity for engagement.

The website also hosted a competition to win a Supreme Care washing machine with a whisper quiet spin cycle of only 68 decibels, while a second Whirlpool competition hosted on Twitter generated over a thousand tweets, with people sharing their most annoying noises, with some hilarious scenarios and images.

Opportunities to hear about Whirlpool’s Supreme Care washing machines with noise reducing ZENTechnologywere further enhanced by partnership with lifestyle, technology, and family bloggers. Some posted reviews, others held successful competitions, and all talked about the importance of quiet appliances in the home.

Jennifer Taylor, Senior Brand Manager, Whirlpool, said: “We are already setting our sights on future National Quiet Days, and the second Wednesday in September will be devoted to inspiring all of us to find a little more quietness in our everyday lives. The engagement for this first year was truly phenomenal, and we are looking forward to encouraging greater ZEN moments and building on our success going forward.”
