Peterborough based Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited, the home of Hotpoint, has launched the new Whirlpool World website, providing a platform for UK consumers to stay informed of the ways in which Whirlpool is working to improve life at home. The website highlights Whirlpool UK’s continuing commitment to the circular economy through investment in several initiatives, including promoting product recycling and refurbishment programmes, reducing waste and using materials in a more sustainable way.
The new www.whirlpoolworld.co.uk website is modern and easy-to-navigate, while being divided into three main categories; Planet, Product and People. Each section provides information on topics including the company’s range of ongoing sustainability initiatives, community projects, charity partnerships, educational schemes, awards and much more.
For example, the People section of the website lists many of the initiatives supported by Whirlpool UK to improve the lives of those living in the communities in which it operates. Furthermore, this category shares information on the ways in which the company is striving to be a great place to work, including wellbeing, learning and development strategies designed to look after its 2,500 colleagues in the UK. Also included on the new Whirlpool World website is a timeline and background into Whirlpool’s operations in the UK, as well as a news section featuring the latest company updates.
www.whirlpoolworld.co.uk also provides comprehensive details on the company’s long-term sustainability strategy. As part of this strategy, which includes a commitment to reach net zero emissions at its plants and in its operations by 2030, Whirlpool UK has a strong track record of investing heavily in the circular economy. This is demonstrated by several developments that have been made within its plants, products and practices, helping the company move towards a more circular model.
Whirlpool UK’s Peterborough headquarters and manufacturing facility in Yate have achieved the ambitious goal of zero waste to landfill. Alongside this, the company is trialling biofuel in its on-site vehicles, as well as working towards its entire fleet becoming 50 per cent electric by 2025, including company cars, engineers’ vans and delivery vehicles.
Furthermore, not only is Whirlpool UK improving its service and maintenance solutions to keep its products in use for longer, the company is also developing its appliances to increase resource efficiency and contain more recycled or recyclable materials. Appliances that are collected from customers’ homes are either recycled or refurbished, including safely removing harmful gasses from refrigeration products and recycling delivery packaging free of charge. Products are refurbished at the company’s reworks facility, based at its UK headquarters in Peterborough.
Reducing the amount of waste generated as part of its operations is key to supporting the circular economy. Whirlpool UK has therefore reappointed waste management firm Axil integrated Services. To date, the firm has supported Whirlpool UK in achieving a 50 per cent reduction in general waste at its Peterborough and Yate sites, as well as an 80 per cent reduction of plastic usage.
Ian Moverley, Communications Director, Whirlpool UK Appliances Limited comments: “We are delighted to launch our brand new Whirlpool World website. Nowadays, more and more consumers are looking to buy from reputable, sustainable companies that strive to nurture our planet and communities. We hope consumers will find the website informative and inspiring, where they can stay up to date with the environmental practices that are transforming the way we operate, the charity initiatives that are close to our hearts and the training and development strategies that are opening up new opportunities for our highly valued colleagues.
“At Whirlpool UK, we have a long and proven track record of leading the way when it comes to sustainability, and our commitment to investing in the circular economy is an integral part of this. By manufacturing in a way that reduces waste and uses resources more efficiently, while recirculating materials via recycling and refurbishing initiatives, we can offer our customers solutions that help them to live more sustainably at home.”
