Retra Welcomes New President

Retra’s latest president, Shaun Barrett, has begun his term of office.

Shaun is the director of Barrett’s Digital World, a 10,000 ft² out-of-town superstore in Canterbury that has been serving consumers for over 100 years. He takes the reins from Robert Hughes, director of Hughes Electrical, a successful chain of 44 stores across the Suffolk and the East Midlands. Shaun was awarded the presidency at retra’s October council meeting, and took the opportunity to thank Robert for his hard work, and deliver his mission statements for the coming year.

In his speech, Shaun said: “I feel very honoured to receive the presidency from Robert, and follow in the footsteps of such esteemed former presidents. I would like to thank Rob for all his hard work over the past year; he will be a very hard act to follow! retra has enjoyed a good year under Rob but it is time to look to the future.

“I would particularly like to use my presidency to increase the number of retail and associate members in retra. Welcoming manufacturers as associate members can bring numerous benefits to existing members and it is important to capitalise on this, while also strengthening the bonds between retailers and manufacturers. I would also like to attract the younger generation of electrical retailers to provide a new and contemporary take on working in the industry.”

Speaking as he handed over the presidency, Robert said: “My time as retra president has been a very useful experience, challenging at times but truly memorable. I am very proud of what I have achieved and wish Shaun the best of luck for the coming year.”
