Much Needed Specialist Dementia Care Facility Soon To Open At Dormy House, Sunningdale

Dormy House, a premier care home in Sunningdale, Berkshire, will be marking the opening of their new self-contained specialist dementia facility with a special Scottish-themed event on Burns Night, Monday 25th January.

The Mayor of Windsor, Councillor Jesse Grey, is to open Dormy House’s new facility, known as ‘The Surrey’, at the event. The new extension comprises a range of innovative facilities that have incorporated research from the University of Stirling, who are recognised for their extensive and detailed research into the condition. ‘The Surrey’ will further enhance Dormy House’s reputation for providing care to elderly people throughout the changing needs that age can bring, creating an unrivalled facility that is flexible, comfortable and appropriate for specialist care delivery.

Residents and visitors will be treated to a Scottish dinner, including haggis that will be piped in, in the traditional style for Burns Night.

Dormy House, part of the Caring Homes group, has invited neighbours and members of the local golf club to thank them for their continued patience during the building works. The invitation has been extended to local GPs, and representatives from the primary care trust and social services.

Care home manager Sian Davis said: “We are all very excited about the official opening of our wonderful new dementia unit. It is shaping up to be an enjoyable event, and I am sure the Scottish-themed meal will be very popular! Everyone at Dormy House would like to thank all those who live near the home, as they have been incredibly understanding and supportive throughout the disruption caused by the building work.

“We are extremely proud to be able to care for our residents in such a magnificent unit. There are lots of thoughtful features that make life easier for people with dementia. An automatic lighting system in each bedroom lights up at night to guide one to the bathroom, to prevent trips and falls. Outside each room there is a memory box, a glass fronted box with lights behind to display treasured items. This helps the person with dementia to recognise their room.”

“We want our care centre to be a happy, relaxed and safe place where individuals receive excellent care.”

Editors Notes

Dormy House care home is an attractive, mansion-style property set in its own grounds in a prestigious location adjacent to the Sunningdale championship golf course. Originally built in the 1930s as a private family residence, the property has been sympathetically converted and extended to provide a comfortable home offering hotel services to older people who require either short or long term, residential, nursing or dementia care.
