SheerLuxe – How to Maximise A Narrow Hallway

Hallways are key when it comes to making a good first impression for guests, as well as for welcoming us home. Despite this, they are often one of the most neglected rooms in the home when it comes to interior design. In this article, SheerLuxe draws upon advice from a variety of industry experts and interior designers, who each offer up their top tips and tricks when it comes to achieveing a perfect blend of style and practicality in the hallway.

In terms of paint, SheerLuxe advises that opting for a light or neutral colour on the walls will create a fresh and clean atmosphere in the room. For those of us looking for a more unique touch, interior designer Olivia Emery suggests using darker colours on the lower part of the walls, as well as on any woodwork, which will hide any marks or scratches. What’s more, the article also recommends selecting a hardwearing paint, due to it being a high traffic area.

When it comes to lighting, inviting as much natural light into the hallway as possible is key for creating a welcoming and airy space. When this isn’t possible, mirrors can achieve a similar impact, helping to bounce light around the room and make it look bigger than it actually is. We love interior designer Laura Stephens’ idea of installing decorative ceiling pendant lights for a sophisticated touch. Stylish lamps placed on top of a shelf or storage unit are perfect for anyone looking to add additional light into their hallway too. The article also features a variety of other clever tips and tricks, such as investing in a fitted doormat to provide style and practicality, opting for fresh flowers and artwork to inject some personality into your space and adding an eye-catching patterned tile flooring for a unique and stylish touch that is easy to maintain.

This article from SheerLuxe is perfect for anyone looking to revamp their hallway, demonstrating that simple and easy updates can transform a small, dark area into a welcoming and bright space. Click the link to read the full article and don’t forget to let us know which tip is your favourite!

Homes & Gardens – 5 key textile trends for Spring/Summer 2021 – from world-class textile designers

Our next article is all about textile trends and what is set to be hot in our homes during the spring and summer seasons this year. Homes & Gardens showcases five key textile trends from five expert textile designers and we certainly like what we see!

Interestingly, the article mentions how textile trends can be inspired by current events and with us living in such unprecedented times, its no surprise that the events of the past year have influenced some of the upcoming trends. The ‘global influence’ trend, which inlcudes textiles such as geometric motifs from West Africa and embrodiery from Mexico, is growing in popularity as people are missing the freedom of being able to go abroad. By bringing globally influenced textiles into our homes, we are able to relish our travelling memories and look forward to seeing the world again one day.

The ‘feel good colour combinations’ trend is another that builds on our experiences of the past year. Printmaker, Molly Mahon discusses this: “The current focus is to create a warm and atmospheric environment as we are all at home more…This can be achieved with bright and joyful designs, so my trend prediction is all about embracing colour and pattern to the max.” Molly goes on to say how using feel-good colours such as rose pink and mustard yellow will help to lift the mood. We can’t think of anything better than bringing joyful spring colours into our homes this year.

Finally, we couldn’t leave our discussion on this article without mentioning that one of our favourite textiles is included… bouclé! We adore this cosy material and it seems we’re not the only ones with Potter, Designer and Author, Jonathan Alder saying: “It’s bouclé’s moment and I couldn’t be happier. I’m covering everything – sofas, chairs, my husband, my dog – in an ivory bouclé.” We’re excited to see bouclé become a growing staple in more and more homes, let’s watch this space!
