February is always a welcome month for us at jmm PR. Not only does it give us Valentine’s Day and Shrove Tuesday, we also start to notice the nights getting lighter as we begin to edge that bit closer to spring. Admittedly, a lot of our reading this month has been centred around Valentine’s-inspired interiors and pancake recipes, however we have also found a few other trends along the way.

This week, we’ve put together a round-up of the most inspirational articles we’ve read throughout the month. Our write-up includes a blog post from Vicky Flip Flop, as well as articles from Livingetc and These Three Rooms.

Vicky Flip Flop – Why the Philippines Should Be in Your Travel Bucket List

The Philippines is arguably an underrated destination when it comes to tropical holidays, despite being a stunning country with unique attractions and plenty of exciting activities. The Philippines is made up of nearly 7,000 islands and is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In this blog post, Vicky Flip Flop details why the Philippines should be on everyone’s travel bucket list.

Firstly, Vicky details how the Philippines is home to some of the most beautiful beaches, islands and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These include significant conservation sites such as the Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan Island, which is one of the most impressive cave systems in the world.

The Philippines is budget-friendly, which means you get plenty of bang for your buck during your travels. “It has picturesque islands, a rich culture, mouth-watering cuisine, cheap public transportations and accommodations, and adventures galore, all of which are frequently offered at astoundingly minimal costs.” says Vicky.

The blog then goes onto explain how most of the locals speak English and that you will meet some of the friendliest people. If the Philippines isn’t already on your bucket list, be sure to check out Vicky’s blog post for more reasons to visit the islands.

Livingetc – The six relaxing kitchen colours you should be using for calming schemes, according to designers

The kitchen can be a hectic place with cooking, homework and chores. It’s therefore important to create a calm environment so that you can relax and enjoy your kitchen. Livingetc has spoken to various designers on how to choose a colour scheme that creates a restful kitchen. The article includes information on using natural greens, pared-down pinks, and earthy neutrals. It also includes tips on the best ways to create a more zen kitchen atmosphere.

One key take-away we took from the article was from Californian interior designer, Sarah Rosenhaus, who says: “If you’re painting your walls, select a cabinet finish that is more neutral to complement the colour, keep the counters and backsplash understated or select a paint colour that picks up on the tones in your marble slab”.

We were pleased to read that pink kitchens can create a calming environment! We just have to remember the advice given by colour expert and Farrow & Ball ambassador, Patrick O’Donnell, that it’s the ‘earthier end of the pink palette’ that creates a relaxing space (as opposed to the brighter pinks that we would be tempted to use!).

These Three Rooms – Rustic industrial: how to add this cool and cosy trend to your home

We love it when two classic interior décor styles merge and create a brand new trend, so we were instantly taken in when we saw this article on rustic industrial decorating. The style enables you to create a warm and welcoming feel, while still being trendy and incorporating many of the classic industrial design elements such as exposed brick and metal accents that we all know and love. As These Three Rooms explains in the article, this look can be achieved by simply adding colours like forest green and warm amber, and introducing mood lighting, as well as opting for dark woods, warm neutrals and metal finishes.

Dark wood isn’t a material we have spoken about much on our blog before, but it has really caught our eye in this article! According to These Three Rooms, “Dark wood is a cornerstone of any rustic industrial look. Treated or untreated, with the grain visible or not – what matters is that it’s rich in colour, to add warmth to your space”. If you don’t want to go for dark wood flooring, These Three Rooms suggests dark wood bar stools, shelves, or even a chopping board or knife block to bring in that warmth.

Do you have any rustic industrial style rooms in your home? Let us know your thoughts on this trend in the comments below.
