Our Top Three Interior Trends of the Year

With the new year fast approaching, we’ve put together a round-up of our favourite interior design trends of 2023. We have listed them in reverse order below, drum roll please…

3. Bloomcore

As soon as we saw the term ‘bloomcore’ we knew it would be associated with flowers, so we were keen to find out what this trend was all about. We first read about bloomcore in an article by Ideal Home: Bloomcore – how to make the beautiful new micro-trend work in your home.

In this article, Ideal Home spoke to Darcie Hewitt-Dudding, an interiors expert from furn.com, who said: “Bloomcore – also known as flowercore – celebrates flowers, gardening and bringing nature indoors… bloomcore evokes the naturescape of life in a quaint English village”.

To introduce bloomcore gently, Ideal Home suggested trying the trend with soft furnishings and accessories. “Opt for more delicate and whimsical floral prints that display wildflower designs and painterly effects, as opposed to more oversized and contemporary ones for that authentic vintage feel,” said Marie Goodwin, head designer at Prestigious Textiles.

We love florals here at jmm PR, so bloomcore just had to make out top three interior trends of the year! For those of you that aren’t so keen on flowery patterns, Ideal Home also gave some ideas for anyone that isn’t a big fan of florals, such as using colours that are associated with wildflowers and fields.

2. Rustic industrial

We love it when two classic interior décor styles merge and create a brand new trend, so we were instantly taken in when we read about rustic industrial decorating. The style enables you to create a warm and welcoming feel, while still being trendy and incorporating many of the classic industrial design elements such as exposed brick and metal accents that we all know and love.

This trend caught our eye thanks to an article by These Three Rooms way back in February (Rustic industrial: how to add this cool and cosy trend to your home). The article explained how his look can be achieved by simply adding colours like forest green and warm amber, and introducing mood lighting, as well as opting for dark woods, warm neutrals and metal finishes.

Dark wood isn’t a material we had spoken about much on our blog before, but we became big fans after seeing how to incorporate it to create the rustic industrial trend. According to These Three Rooms, “Dark wood is a cornerstone of any rustic industrial look. Treated or untreated, with the grain visible or not – what matters is that it’s rich in colour, to add warmth to your space”.

1. Barbiecore

It wouldn’t be a blog post on 2023 interior trends if Barbiecore didn’t get a mention! This pretty pink craze, inspired by the Barbie film, just had to take our number one spot. During the summer months, we saw the hot pink colour associated with Barbie everywhere (and we were totally there for it!).

On the subject on Barbiecore, but moving away from pink (for just a second), we really enjoyed Decoralist’s blog post back in July, which delved deeper into the trend and explained: “Barbie’s home is cohesive using a variety of different colours such as whites, greens, pale blues and pinks to draw her spaces together. The walls are neutral, allowing for the furniture and accessories to shine and we also can’t help but notice the use of timeless materials, such as rattan and wicker.”
