House Beautiful – 6 clever ways to make your bathroom look bigger
Bathrooms are typically the smallest room in the home and, for many of us, their compact size can often leave us struggling for ideas when it comes to decorating. If you’re searching for inspiration for your small bathroom, this article from House Beautiful is a must read. It’s packed with tips and tricks on making your space feel bigger, as well as including insider design advice from industry experts!
According to the article, light and colour are hugely important when it comes to creating a bathroom that feels larger than it is (much like in other areas of your home), however your toilet, sink, shower or bath and accessories like mirrors, radiators and storage are also key. For those of us with smaller budgets, a quick and simple way of making your bathroom look bigger is to use smart storage solutions. Bathroom clutter, including shampoo and shower gel bottles, spare toilet rolls, towels and cleaning products, can make your space feel significantly smaller. To provide a place to store these everyday items, the article suggests opting for shelves over your door, wall-mounted rails or drawer inserts, as well as using magnetic strips in cupboards to hang items such as tweezers and razors!
If your budget permits, replacing a bath for a walk-in shower can be a really effective way of saving space. Adding extra lighting is another important step to making your bathroom look and feel bigger. This can come in the form of wall or ceiling lights, as well as opting for an illuminated or LED bathroom mirror, which can really improve the atmosphere of your room too.
When it comes to colour, lighter shades will help to create the illusion of space, so the article suggests opting for a base of white with touches of blush, taupe or soft blues and greens. House Beautiful also shares the following top tip, “One paint trick that never fails is to use the same colour across walls, ceiling, and doors to give the impression of space.” As for accessories, bright hand towels, bath mats and plant pots will help to liven up your bathroom and add a pop of colour, which is particularly important if your space has limited light or a small window.
Our favourite idea in the article, and one that’s great for bathrooms with limited floor space, is to mount fixtures onto your walls. This can include anything from your toilet and basin, to smaller accessories such as toilet roll holders and towel rails. According to Richard Roberts, Director at Sanctuary Bathrooms, “Lifting everything up off the ground provides extra space and extends your floor outwards, making it look bigger”.

Good Homes – Christmas decorations: 5 top trends for 2021
If you’re looking to revamp your Christmas decorations this year then look no further than this article from Good Homes, which lists some great room ideas that are on-trend for 2021, so your space will not only look festive but stylish too.
Due to the amount of time spent indoors over the past two years, incorporating nature elements into our interior design has become a key trend, as people look to bring the outdoors into their homes. Winter trees and garlands are all part of Good Homes’ ‘Nature’s Bounty’ look that also appeals to those looking for a more traditional approach.
Japandi has really taken off in the interior design world and also taps into natural elements, though it is much more minimalistic than traditional Christmas decorations. Good Homes’ ‘Relaxed Japandi’ look entails neutral colours such as whites, creams and browns. If you want to try this trend, think about getting a white Christmas tree or wrapping your presents in plain brown paper, topped with pretty white ribbons. Not only will this look sophisticated, but Japandi is also well known for creating a calming atmosphere within a room, perfect for balancing out what can be a hectic celebration!

If your space has a chic pale pink and white colour scheme, then pairing this with mint green, soft gold and ice blue decorations is part of Good Homes’ ‘Opal Blush’ Christmas room set idea, which showcases a stylish and feminine festive look – and don’t forget the glitter! ‘Winter Solstice’ moves to much darker tones such as plum, amber, dark green and gold and goes big on eccentric cushion patterns and oversized decorations for a trendy and quirky style.
The final concept is ‘Copper River’ which is inspired by John Lewis’ river life, which takes a dive into some water themes with aquatic animal decorations such as herons and fish as well as ‘inky blues and liquid greens’. Add that festive touch by pairing this look with reds and golds for a unique approach to your Christmas décor.
