National Quiet Day 2020 - Mini-poll results

Noisy Washing Machines Annoyed Us The Most During Lockdown

A mini-poll commissioned for National Quiet Day has found that during lockdown, the noise generated by their washing machine annoyed respondents the most, with 51 per cent of those surveyed blaming the laundry appliance for disturbing their peace and quiet*.

Conducted via Trend-Monitor for home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool, the mini-poll also revealed that nearly than one in 10 people were disrupted by the sound of their kettle and 14 per cent of those surveyed were annoyed by their fridge freezer, however only six per cent were frustrated by noise from their dishwasher*.

The poll of over 1,300 adults found that noisy appliances have been disturbing UK consumers during the lockdown, while many have been working from home, home-schooling, or trying to do a bit of both.

Charmaine Warner, Brand Manager, Whirlpool, says: “In a world that is changing fast and constantly challenging us, our homes became our safe place and we truly respect what matters. Our homes have been transformed and have become our office, classroom, restaurant, cinema and so much more. We all came up with inventive ideas to stay home and stay safe, however this often meant increased noise and daily disruptions.

“Technology exists not only to simplify our lives, but it can also enhance our homes by helping to cook, manage resource consumption and complete a load of laundry, without the noise from the spin cycle interrupting work, school and home life in general.

“This National Quiet Day, we encourage everyone to enjoy some quiet time, either alone or with your family, reflecting on the past few months and what really matters in life. There are many benefits of getting some peace and quiet, from improving your focus and concentration to becoming calmer and patient, lowering stress levels and understanding what is important to you.”

Wednesday, 9th September 2020, marks the fifth annual National Quiet Day, which aims to highlight the importance for everyone to find time for more peace and quiet in their lives. National Quiet Day also raises awareness of the issue that noise has a substantial effect on our wellbeing and mental health.

Whirlpool has the solution to a noisy washing machine with its Supreme Care range, which has been designed and engineered with innovative ZEN Technology™. This impressive noise reduction technology ensures that the appliances boast super quiet spin cycles, which have gained them Quiet Mark accreditation**, meaning consumers can get on with life, and work, undisturbed by the sound of their laundry appliance.
