Real Homes – 16 tips for an eco-friendly Christmas

Let’s face it, regardless of how much we might enjoy the festive period, the inevitable increase in waste from wrapping paper, food and unwanted gifts undoubtedly has a negative impact on the environment. Here at jmm PR, we’re always keeping our eyes peeled for ways to be more sustainable at home, so when we came across this article, we had to share it in our Favourite Articles of the Week blog post. Packed to the brim with tips and tricks on eco-friendly ways to enjoy the festive period, this article from Real Homes is perfect for anyone looking for sustainable ways to celebrate Christmas this year.

When it comes to decorating our homes, Real Homes suggests purchasing recycled decorations made from materials such as wood, fabric or glass, as well as opting for designs that will stand the test of time. Not only this, the Real Homes team also recommends purchasing a good quality artificial tree that will last a lifetime or, if you’d like to give an old tree a new home, why not consider buying one from eBay, Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. As for presents, the article is packed full of ideas on how to create gift wrap that’s as stylish as it is eco-friendly. We love the idea of using a fabric scarf to wrap gifts, a great way of reducing waste and giving your loved one an extra present to enjoy! We’re also big fans of using brown paper to wrap gifts, complete with string and pine tree sprigs for a rustic finish.

When it comes to feeding your guests over the festive period, taking the time to carefully plan meals and shopping lists will help with reducing the amount of food waste your home generates. Not only this, as 50 per cent of the jmm PR team are vegetarian, it’s no surprise that we like the idea of reducing the amount of meat served up at the dinner table this year. Why not try replacing one meal with a delicious veggie alternative? If you hate the idea of celebrating Christmas without your beloved turkey or pigs in blankets, purchasing organic or buying meat directly from your local farmers market is a great way of lessening your impact on the environment this festive season.

If you like the sound of these ideas and want to know more, why not check out this article for 16 tips and tricks on having a more eco-friendly Christmas this year. We’d love to hear your thoughts and if you have any ideas that weren’t featured in this article, be sure to let us know!

These Three Rooms – Black Friday 2020: how to shop wisely and bag a bargain

Today is Black Friday and with so many adverts and articles on arguably the most exciting day in the shopping calendar, it’s hard not to be tempted by the deals. Black Friday is great if you have had your eye on something for a while and notice a significant drop in the price. However, often we are lured in by seemingly good deals, leading us to buy things that we never actually needed. Luckily, this article from These Three Rooms explains how to shop wisely on Black Friday, providing tips on how not to get too carried away! The article takes advice from consumer shopping experts such as Which? and Money Saving Expert to ensure that readers are well equipped to make sensible purchases.

The first tip is to make a list, so simple yet so effective! When you have written down what you want to buy, it is suggested to browse websites and make a note of the two best prices to ensure you are getting the best deal out there. Money Saving Expert recommends using free price comparison tools like Google Shopping and Price Spy. They also recommend setting a budget and not to get caught up in the hype.

Our favourite tip from the article is, again, from Money Saving Expert: “Big retailers often price-match each other on Black Friday, so check what else they’re offering such as free additional warranties, music streaming or TV subscriptions.” We love getting additional perks, such as a free subscription, when making a significant purchase, so this is definitely something we’ll be looking out for.

Good luck if you are doing your Christmas shopping or trying to bag a big ticket item such as an appliance, game or gadget today. While we love an online bargain, we’re also looking forward to the ‘non-essential’ retailers re-opening so we can have a good browse and finish off our Christmas shopping with a trip to the High Street!
