Good Homes – Fireplace design ideas for a cosy home

On Tuesday this week, we officially welcomed the first day of autumn, so it’s no surprise that many of us have started to make changes around the house to get ready for the colder weather. Fireplaces are synonymous with cosy nights in and if, like us, you’re looking for some autumn design inspiration and styling advice, this article from Good Homes is a must-read.

A fireplace can act as a beautiful centrepiece, transforming even the most modern space to a room filled with a cosy, traditional and cottage-like atmosphere. As well as opting for a hearth made from patterned tiles to add a decorative touch, in this article, Good Homes suggests surrounding your fireplace with lanterns and candles to create the ultimate evening relaxation spot. We love the idea of adding seasonal touches, such as dressing your mantelpiece with a eucalyptus garland for autumn/winter, something that can be changed throughout the year to ensure your home is always on trend!

For those of us with fireplaces where the chimney has been sealed, Good Homes highlights the importance of using them to create a stylish feature, by tiling the surround, hanging a shelf to act as a mantelpiece and even filling your empty fireplace with logs to create a cosy, rustic look.

We may have already spent a lot of time indoors in recent months, but this article certainly succeeds in filling us with excitement at the thought of spending cosy nights at home throughout the autumn and winter months. Make sure you check it out and don’t forget to let us know how you’ll be styling your fireplace this season!

Country Living – Top 10 autumn/winter interior trends for 2020

Sticking with the autumn/winter theme, our next favourite article is on the top A/W interior trends for 2020! Our homes have been our safe places this year and the trends are very much based on this. According to Country Living, “2020’s interior trends look backwards to happier, calmer times, such as ‘Granny chic’, 70’s style bamboo and cane furniture, informal dining and, of course, lots of house plants to bring life into the home.”

We loved looking through the different styles in the article and some of them certainly brought a sense of nostalgia. The ‘Granny chic’ trend involves lots of pattern, who’d have thought that old rug that you encouraged your grandparents to get rid of would come back in fashion?! Highly patterned rugs teamed with floral wallpaper and velvet furnishings make this trend daring but so fitting for the cosy season.

The ‘back to nature’ trend is one that we’re very fond of. It brings the outdoors in with soft green colours and wooden furniture. Country Homes recommends this trend for the bedroom and showcases super cute bedding, with a woodland animal pattern, which gives an instant autumnal feel. Similarly, the ‘spice colours’ trend is one we’d certainly get on board with this autumn/winter. This trend uses earthy colours to add warmth to a room and it’s particularly on trend as the colours are in line with Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2021: ‘Brave Ground’.

We hope that our blog post this week will help you transition into the new season. We can’t wait to embrace the darker nights and these articles have certainly inspired us to give some of our rooms a cosy makeover!
