Real Homes – The 4 biggest home trends of 2021, according to Pinterest

In terms of home décor trends, we witnessed a plethora of styles emerge throughout 2020, including grey kitchens, stylish WFH spaces, bringing the outside in and the CottageCore trend, which really took off towards the end of the year. As we are now entering the last couple of weeks of 2020, what better time to ensure that we are ahead of the game when it comes to interior design. This article from Real Homes takes us on a deep dive into the four biggest home décor trends expected to emerge in 2021, based upon the results of Pinterest’s annual report.

According to this article, the top four 2021 trends to look out for are as follows:

  1. Modern Minimalism (AKA Japandi) – A blend between Scandinavian styles and Japanese minimalism. Think neutral colours such as white and tan, as well as de-cluttered, streamlined spaces.
  2. Neon lights – Perfect for boosting your mood and brightening up your home, LED lights are growing in popularity and come in a variety of styles and designs, including catchphrases and wall art.
  3. Shelfies – Otherwise known as a shelf selfie, this rapidly growing trend involves perfectly styled shelves that show off your favourite home décor accessories.
  4. Hybrid rooms – A clever way of making the most of the space you have available, this trend uses dividers to separate rooms, ideal for those of us still working from home!

The best thing about this article is that the Real Homes team also offers up some products that perfectly complement each of the trends, meaning you can easily recreate these styles in your own home. We love the idea of displaying neon lights around the house, perfect for brightening up a room and giving it a modern touch. We’re also big fans of giving the Scandinavian trend, which has been more popular than ever in 2020, with a Japanese twist. The ceramic bowls from Etsy (pictured) perfectly complement this style and would look great on a coffee table, bookcase or mantelpiece!

According to Real Homes, eight out of 10 of Pinterest’s home décor predictions for 2020 came true, so it certainly seems like this article is a must-read if you’re looking to get ahead of the trends! Don’t forget to let us know which of these trends you’ll be trying out at home next year.

Good Homes – Pantone Colour of the Year 2021: how to style it in your home

Our second choice of article this week is centred on the new Pantone Colour of the Year 2021. We love hearing what colours are set to trend in a new year and Pantone’s 2021 choice certainly doesn’t disappoint. In fact, it’s even better than usual as there is not one, but two colours; ‘Ultimate Grey and Illuminating’, which is a grey and yellow combination. This article from Good Homes provides styling ideas for bringing the colours into your home and from what we’ve seen; we already love the colour combo!

Good Homes explains that grey and yellow (or ‘Grellow’) is something they picked as one of the biggest interior trends of the last decade so there is plenty inspiration out there. According to the article, feature walls are due a comeback and the ‘Illuminating’ yellow is a great choice to add to a room. We love the idea of a grey sofa with yellow accents such as a footstool. This also makes it easy to update the trend in the future and pair a different colour with your grey sofa.

Our favourite way to use grey and yellow from the article is in the geometric style tiles (pictured above). Geometric tiles have been on our radar for a while but we usually favour grey and pink geometrics. However, we love this look from Original Style so much that it may have knocked pink from the top spot of our favourite geometric styles (did we really just say that?)!

What do you think to the Pantone colour(s) of the year? Are colour trends something you pay attention to when updating your interior design or do you always go with your own personal preferences? We’d love to know what you use to inspire your colour schemes at home!
