Good Homes – 6 ways to make your home a cosy haven

There’s nothing better than snuggling up and feeling cosy during the evening, especially as we continue to live in lockdown. Our desire to settle down under a huge throw, wearing our fluffy slippers grows even more so when the weather is wintery. So given that we all saw snow settle in our gardens this week, we just had to feature Good Homes’ guide on how to make your home a cosy haven in our favourite articles this week.

The article includes six ways to maximise cosiness at home from Lucy Ackroyd, Head Designer at Christy. The top tips include using warm colours to create feelings of safety, with Lucy suggesting Terracotta paired with a biscuit, stone or a soft pink colour, to create a sense of comfort. Introducing rugs and throws are also key to creating a cosy atmosphere, perfect for the lockdown days and cold winter nights.

We’re big fans of candles, fairy lights and lamps here at jmm PR, so we are definitely on-board with the idea of using alternatives to the main light in the room. There’s nothing quite as cosy as a warm glow from a candle, or soft twinkle from a fairy light. In fact, we rarely use our ceiling lights after work!

Our favourite idea from the article is incorporating memories into the interior design of your home. As we’re all missing spending time with our loved ones outside of our household, it suggests having plenty of photos on show to keep our happiest memories at the forefront of each and every day.

We’d love to hear how you use these tips in your own homes. Do you have a large textured rug in the centre of your living room? Or perhaps your bed has been overtaken by the amount of cushions and throws on top of your duvet? If you have any other tips for maximising cosiness at home, we’re all ears!

House Beautiful – Room divider ideas: 12 ways to divide a room

With more of us now working from home than ever before, chances are you will probably have heard about the increasing popularity of room dividers. Perfect for splitting up your living space into separate areas, room dividers can create privacy in multifunctional, open-plan houses or flats, ideal for those of us now using our home as an office space. This article from House Beautiful proves that, regardless of your budget or the size of your house, there are a number of simple and effective ways to separate your space.

According to the article, folding screens are the quickest and easiest way of dividing up a room, providing a flexible solution for anyone looking to temporarily section up their space, as well as offering a stylish backdrop for video meetings! In addition, open furniture such as shelving units and bookcases can also be used to create different zones, without cutting out light or making the space feel dark and cramped. Not only this, you can also decorate them with accessories such as flowers, candles and ornaments, ensuring that your room divider is both practical and stylish!

Elsewhere in the article, House Beautiful suggests a variety of doors that can be used to divide up a room, including traditional folding doors, bi-folding doors, and sliding doors, all of which will help to evoke a feeling of privacy, while preventing the area from feeling too closed in, particularly when glass doors are used. We love the idea of using curtains to separate different areas of the home. As well as being a budget-friendly option, curtains are perfect for adding colour and texture, as well as for hiding any unorganised or cluttered areas for a streamlined appearance. Or, if you’re looking for more unique ideas, why not try installing a double sided wood-burning stove (pictured below), or attaching trailing plants to a clothes rail on wheels, offering a portable and stylish way of diving up your room!

Whatever your motivation for wanting to divide up your home, this article is sure to have something that will work perfectly for your space. We’d love to hear about whether you will be trying out any of these ideas (and if so, which ones), and let us know if you have any additional tips and tricks that weren’t mentioned in the article!
