YourHomeStyle – Home bar ideas: everything you need to create your own home bar

Home bars boomed in 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic forced pubs and restaurants to close. But just because we’re now able to visit pubs and restaurants again, it doesn’t mean we have to say goodbye to home bars. In fact, they’re just as popular now as they add style to your home as well as convenience.

As this article by YourHomeStyle explains, the best thing about home bars is that they can be as big and extravagant or small and minimalistic as you want – which means their cost can very much vary to match your budget! We really love the idea of creating bars from scraps such as barrels, old bikes and crates, as it creates a traditional, industrial feel which is trendy as well as creative. Or, if you’re looking for a really cost-effective option, then a home bar can be as simple as a drinks trolley which is beneficial in terms of mobility as it can be easily moved from one room to another, or even into the garden during the summer!

A lot of home bar units will come with their own built-in shelves for storing your drinks and glasses, but if you’re looking for a way to show off your collection and make it a part of the room décor, then there are plenty of options for home bar shelving. Some will come designed for displaying your finest wine glasses, but even just a simple fitted shelf to show off your spirits and wine bottles will really give your bar a more authentic appearance.

For the finishing touches, think about what style of bar you would like before picking out the accessories. If you want a more traditional English pub look, then pick out some beer mats, retro posters and decorative pumps. If you want a cocktail lounge vibe, then look for sophisticated and antique ornaments and pair them up with pendant lights.

Ideal Home – Living room storage ideas – 29 ways to curb the clutter

We love storage hacks here at jmm PR, especially when they include clever and creative ways to provide extra storage without taking up more space. This is why we enjoyed this article by Ideal Home, which has some great ideas for incorporating crafty storage solutions into your living room design.

Having a cluttered living room can make your home feel unorganised, which prevents you from creating a space that has a calming aura. Because of this, we particularly liked the multi-functional furniture with built-in storage solutions in this article, such as the bay window seat and the hideaway work from home office. These tips are especially ideal for smaller homes as they offer a chance to put items away without taking up any more floor space, which in turn grants more options for placing decorative objects.

We also liked the idea of displaying your beloved items and making them part of your living room decoration rather than hiding them away. Not only does this personalise your space by filling it with things that represent your life, but it also makes your storage a focal point as well as functional. Ideal Home uses open and closed shelving as an example, you can display more decorative pieces such as books on the open shelves and then reserve the closed shelves for the more practical, less decorative objects.

Ideal Home also advises making the most out of the tiny, awkward spaces in your living room. This could be calving built-in shelving into an unused chimney breast, an alcove or in the corner of the room. We loved one example that the article includes of opting for a diagonal box shelving arrangement for storing books rather than the traditional straight-lined shelves, this idea is creative and gives the shelving a more unique and interesting appearance. And, if you have a retired fireplace that’s just gathering dust, why not use that space for storage too!

These Three Rooms – Black bedroom ideas for a dark and cosy sanctuary

Black bedrooms are on the rise, especially after research has shown that a darker shade can reduce energy within the room which, in turn, helps you fall asleep. On top of this, black is an easy colour to work with as will pair nicely with almost anything, whether you’re going for a maximalist or minimalist theme, as well as making your bedroom look on-trend. These Three Rooms has put together a list of some black bedroom ideas and we loved how versatile this shade can be with different interior styles.

Our favourite examples from this article were the rooms that included a pop of colour to match the moody tone, especially golds and yellows. But, as These Three Rooms explains, black is such a compatible tone to work with that it will also go brilliantly with just about any colour, especially blues and greens.

For black to work well in a space, you don’t have to plaster it everywhere. Even just including black bedding, throws, cushions or a large headboard will help bring a sense of calm to the room and reduce some of that energy. It also makes a great accent colour, especially when paired with natural materials, such as dark wood which creates a more traditional look.
