Real Homes – The best armchairs: Here are the 7 most user-friendly picks, according to our team

Armchairs can provide numerous benefits to a space, including adding a cosy touch, acting as a stylish design statement and, due to their size, they can be easily moved around the home or taken with you when moving. Given this, it’s no wonder armchairs are popular purchases, offering a simple and cost effective way of making a real statement in your home. In this article, the team at Real Homes provides a roundup of seven of their top armchairs, from classic designs to more unique alternatives, in a variety of colours and materials.

With the weather getting colder, we can’t think of a better place to relax in the evening or during the weekend than an armchair. With an enormous variety of styles on offer, there’s sure to be a design that will perfectly complement your space. Among the Real Homes team’s favourite armchairs is a yellow option with matching footstall, ideal for adding a pop of colour to a room, a rattan chair which would look great in minimalist style rooms, and a deep green velvet design that, despite its costly price tag, would make a stunning statement while providing a perfect space to cuddle up with a good book. Our favourite pick of all has to be the navy blue velvet armchair with scalloped edges and gold legs (pictured), offering a unique design that would look perfect in modern living rooms or as a stylish office chair.

If you’re looking to purchase an armchair to accessorise your home and create a cosy area to relax, then this article is a must read. Make sure you check it out and don’t forget to tell us which of the seven styles is your favourite!

Good Housekeeping – 10 interior design rules to follow when decorating your home

Interior design can be a daunting task, you can have all the ideas, colour schemes and mood boards in the world, but if you are struggling to arrange them then your dream home can turn into a nightmare! Luckily, this article from Good Housekeeping delves into 10 interior design rules to follow when decorating your home. Don’t worry, you don’t have to follow each and every rule, however you’ll be sure to find some key tips and tricks that will make your next renovation a breeze.

The expert tips come from the interior design gurus at Heal’s and we think number three is a genius idea; fake height. It suggests choosing low profile furniture to create the illusion of height and to paint your walls, ceiling and skirting boards the same colour to make the room feel more spacious.

The article is full of help and guidance including how to hang pictures, choosing the correct lighting and how to dress your windows. Interestingly, according to Heal’s, eye level is the perfect height for hanging artwork. However, it suggests hanging a favourite smaller picture above a side table or next to a lamp to create an intimate feel within the room.

The final and most simple tip is to take a step back. “All interior designers will tell you that viewing a room from a distance often makes it easier to see what needs to be added, replaced or removed,” says Sabina, Head of Buying at Heal’s. We couldn’t agree more! It’s so easy to get caught up in what you are doing to only look at the end result and feel disappointed. Take some time to step back and re-evaluate during your renovation project to ensure you are keeping on track and working towards your dream end result.
