Good Homes – Rental decor: 6 deposit-friendly ways to upgrade your abode

Making a rented property stylish can be difficult without damaging your deposit, which can often restrict you from painting the walls or hanging up pictures. This is why we loved this article from Good Homes, which has some suggestions for decorating your rented property without breaking any rules.

Experimenting with lighting is a great way to bring atmosphere to a room, especially if you are limited in what you can do with a space. Just because many rented properties have built-in ceiling spotlights doesn’t mean you can’t still be creative. Try buying interesting table and floor lamps to bring better ambience to your space.

If the walls and floors of your rented property are a little colourless, you can bring vibrance and texture to the room by investing in a large rug. Not only will this help bring your own personal style to your rented home but having a rug will also prevent the property’s flooring from getting damaged, further protecting your deposit! A similar technique can be used when choosing a bed frame. As your bed typically takes up most of the bedroom, choosing a frame that’s unique will bring much more personality to the room as a whole.

Replacing the tiles or giving a kitchen a fresh lick of paint is unlikely to be an option in a rented property, which is why vinyl is an excellent temporary way of colourising your kitchen, especially if you’re looking for an 80s aesthetic. Vinyl is easy to peel off and won’t damage the walls or cupboards in the process. You can also bring character to your kitchen by choosing stylish kitchenware, such as retro-style appliances.

Livingetc – First look: the brand new Paloma Home collection by Paloma Faith

Here at jmm PR, we’re always on the lookout for the latest celeb homeware collections, particularly when they offer unique, stylish pieces to accessorise our homes. This article from Livingetc introduces us to singer/songwriter Paloma Faith’s brand new collection, as well as featuring an interview with Paloma on her inspiration behind the range.

If you’re a fan of minimalist, understated décor then be warned, this may not be the collection for you! Just like Paloma’s own personal style, her collection, Paloma Home, is based around a retro, vibrant and colourful theme, with a variety of bedding sets, cushions, fabric and wallpaper on offer. The new collection is also heavily influenced by Paloma’s home in London, a blend of purchases from eBay and antiques festivals, as well as items picked up from her travels, which she describes as “vintage, eclectic, bohemian vomit”.

A few members of the jmm PR team have fallen in love with this collection! Our favourite pieces are the pink tiger print wallpaper and the gorgeous velvet leopard print cushion. For those of us lacking a love for animal print, the collection also includes stunning floral bedding sets, wallpaper and fabrics, as well as some beautiful velvet cushions with ruffled edging.

When asked by Livingetc why she felt now was the right time to launch her new range, Paloma responded, “Maybe because we’ve spent so much time in our homes, we’re dressing them up more than ourselves”. We have to say, we couldn’t agree more! The timber in the range is FSC-certified, there’s no landfill waste and the footprint is low, meaning you can revamp your home without worrying about your impact on the environment. What’s our favourite thing about the collection? It’s affordable, with prices starting at just £21.

So, if retro maximalism is your thing, or if you’re just interested in a sneak peek at the new range, this article is definitely worth a read. Don’t forget to let us know your thoughts on the new collection!
